Miriam Peña Alvarez
Welcome to my website!
I am a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, where I am appointed to the School of Physics and Astronomy. I am a member of the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions, and a committee member for the European High Pressure Research Group.
My background is in condensed matter chemistry, and I am mainly insterested in extreme conditions. As an experimentalist, I use diamond anvil cells to generate high pressures, to study fundamental physical and chemical phenomena at extreme densities. I aim to explore the fundamental physico-chemical effects of pressures and temperatures rivalling those found in the centre of the Earth and the Jovian planets’ outer layers.
